What an awesome race. The loop course was definitely a great thing for the fans. I saw the pack enter the park at about 1.5 miles, then I ran around for about five miles and saw them come through mile ten, with the lead pack of about five guys running together. Then I did about two more miles and saw the same pack come through 15. Then two more miles for me, then at 20 the race was cracked open by a young Ryan Hall. At 20 miles he was about a minute ahead of the chase pack. I did two more miles then made my way over towards the finish where Ryan Hall came through @2:09! almost 2 minutes ahead of the runner up, Dathan Ritzenheim, third spot went to Brian Sell who ran a kick ass race, coming back furiously over the last five miles. The amazing thing is that even the guys who were way back were still running really fast. I managed to get in 11 miles today, which worked out well because it was pretty cold up there.
Tragically, one of the contenders, Ryan Shay, collapsed and died during the race between miles five and six. He was really talented and his passing is a big loss for distance running in this country.
