Today's run was a variation of the same workout I've been doing for the last few weeks.  I lowered the volume to allow for any fatigue that may accompany the chemo, but I kept the intensity very high.  5 x 1mi w/800m jog in between.  The thing I did differently this week was to split the mile repeats into two speeds.  The first 3/4's I tried to come through very controlled @ 6min pace, then I hammered the last 1/4, not all out, but at least one gear faster.  I am getting pretty comfortable finding the paces I want, and the splits were fairly even.  The first one felt pretty crappy, as usual, but after that I was cruising (plus mentally it was a relief to know I was only doing five reps.)

The splits were; 5:46 (4:30/1:16)  5:41 (4:23/1:18)  5:48 (4:33/1:15)  5:46 (4:30/1:16)  5:48 (4:31/1:17)

4:30 for 3/4mi is exactly 6 min pace, and 1:16 for 1/4 is 5:04 pace.  I tried to think about the last mile of the marathon and see myself running strong and really kicking in the last mile, I'm starting to believe it.  Total of eleven for the day @ 1:19.

I was just bragging to a friend how great you doing with your training. She is doing the 1/2 marathon. I'm hoping that the baby cooperates and arrives early or a little late so I don't miss you at the finish line this year!

The training is going well despite the occasional code red; read today's entry.

Lets just hope the weather is nice so that if you can go, it will be comfortable for spectators, and maybe baby's too.
