It was a very nice day for a race today, the breeze off the ocean kept it from being too hot. I did my usual warm up of about 2.5 miles and was feeling pretty good as I waited for our first guy to come in for the hand off.
My leg was @6.2 miles, so I had an unofficial 10K PR today, by more than 2 minutes. Granted, my previous best was on the Brielle course, which is very hilly and slow, but 2 minutes is huge. The bad part about this race is that it is basically a time trial, no one anywhere near me for the whole race, so I had to set my own pace and push myself. For the first time ever I wore my GPS watch so I could at least have splits, and I was glad I did, it kept my mind occupied. Anyway, I ran @6.2 in 35:35 and I felt very strong at the end. I think we were in 2nd or 3rd when I handed off, so we'll have to wait and see if our guys made up the gap. I think it is unlikely though as there was one team who had their lead off guy do the first 10 miles under 55! About nine miles for the day, now it's time for a nap.
