What a trip! Couldn't have asked for anything more (maybe a little more sun, but that would be knit-picking.) The first day we got there I went out to explore and did an easy five to shake off the flight. Monday I did 5 too, followed by some pool time, then some beach time, then some more pool time. This was pretty much the routine for the whole trip. Up early for a run, then a huge home cooked breakfast at the house, then relaxing for the rest of the day. Even yesterday I had time for a run and some snorkeling before we began our trek home.
We were supposed to have a long lay-over in Charlotte, timed perfectly for dinner, but as is often the case with travel, what you plan is not what happens. Weather delayed our flight, and many other flights landing in Charlotte. Then we almost ran out of gas, so we refueled in Charleston, then landed in NC over 2 hours late. By the time we made it through customs and immigration, we had just enough time to run to our gate, grab a sandwich, and hop on the plane. Long day, we finally made it home around 1:00 AM.
Then to end this nearly perfect week I had a race this morning. Fortunately it was a late start so I got to sleep in a bit. The Mountain Goat 10 Miler is a long standing tradition up here, over 2000 people in the race. I was pleasantly surprised with my time over the very hilly course. I'm not sure where I placed, but I finished in about 62 minutes. With proper rest and a flat course I'm sure I could have gone much faster. This bodes well for the Spring Lake 5. Including the warm up today, I had 31 miles for the week
