Pretty close to perfect conditions for this morning's race.  Cooler, no wind, maybe a little on the humid side, but the cloud cover made it very nice for running.  I did my usual warm up of about 2 miles and was feeling OK, my legs felt a bit heavy, but that's normal.  By the time the gn went off I was ready to go.

First mile I stayed under control with a pack of about 5 guys.  Last years winner took off and was basically gone.  He won by about 2 minutes.  First mile was 6:02.  Second mile the pack is still together, up a steep hill, 6:05.  In the middle of the 3rd mile there is a steep downhill and me and another guy really let loose and dropped the rest of the pack.  So at mile 3, 5:59 we are solidly in 2nd and 3rd place.  I had been leading this guy throughout the race at this point, and I took a quick look back to see where he was.  About a minute later he just flew by me and gapped me by 30 or 40 m in what seemed like a couple of seconds.  I knew I was on PR pace, so I just focused on keeping the effort constant and not letting him disappear.  By the 4th mile I was still feeling pretty good, 6:03.  At his point I know third is mine but I also know I have a good shot at a PR so I can't let up.  5th mile has a good downhill, 5:53.  The last mile has Rankin rd. hill and I kept it together going up, not slowing too much, 6:03.  The last .2 I cranked as hard as I could and came through in 1:01.  Total time was 37:10.  My second 3rd place finish at this race and a PR by 35 seconds!  Very happy with this run considering how hard I ran all week.  With the cool down I'll call it 9 miles for the day.

Pat did well @ 53 and Dad was solid @ 1:01, a good day for all.
