2 days off.

Unscheduled days off yesterday and today. I have been feeling very tired all week, and I felt that maybe I needed a little real rest. I have been tracking my resting heart rate and after an easy day it should go down to "normal." After that tough hot 18 on Thursday, it was elevated, and even after taking yesterday off (and napping), it still isn't all the way back to normal. I think I may be on the edge of "over-training." Too many miles not enough rest. So I decided to back off. Next week I will take it easy too, dropping both the volume and the intensity. I'm thinking I should be feeling good in time for XC next Saturday.
Even with two days off, I still had a pretty decent week, I just didn't feel great. I think I got a little greedy. Normally I build up for three weeks, then take a recovery week. But after last week, which was the third building week, I decided to build for one more week instead of taking a recovery week. I was feeling really good, so I figured why not push it? The answer is because you need rest too, recovery is important, and I know this. But success in training can delude you into thinking you can always do a little more. Starting easy tomorrow, I'm looking forward to a mental break.
