Well, the really hard work is all done.

After spending the morning watching the NY Marathon, and watching the first American win for the men in 27 years, by the time I headed out for my run I was pretty psyched up.

This was to be a trial run and I was quite as fast as I would have liked, but I felt good none-the-less.  There was a light NNW wind, and Dad was driving north to to his run with a tail wind, so he took me a few miles past his starting point.  My run began 22 miles away form home in Sandy Hook.  The wind really wasn't that bad, but it was nice to have a change a scenery on such a long run.  The plan was to run the first 13 easy, then drop down to marathon pace for the rest.  I actually thought I was only 21 miles away so I decided to pick it up after 12 miles.  For some reason, I couldn't quite find my pace for the first two miles or so, after that I was better, but still not spot on.  In the end I wound up counting that first "fast" mile as a warm up, and then averaging about 6:24 for the next eight miles.  I felt good, no strain at all, and I almost feel like my watch wasn't quite accurate today?  The last two miles I felt like I was flying, but they weren't significantly faster?  I think this workout tells me that it will be safe to go out in about 6:20 pace in the marathon.  On fresh legs that should feel like cake until around 20 miles.  Plus. hopefully I can find a pack to run with.  I am ready for the taper to begin!  Less miles, more rest each week.

I kept the pace through that first 12 miles pretty solid, so the time for 22 was 2:41.

Total for the week: 81
          for the  year: 1721
