Great Tempo run!

With the crazy weather we had this afternoon, I decided to do today's tempo run on the treadmill.  I actually like the treadmill for fast running; if it's calibrated right, then the speed is exactly what it is, and so to the distance, so there is no cheating.  Plus I didn't have to deal with heavy downpours, gusty winds, lightning, and possible hail!  I started with 3 miles easy with a few fast strides.  Then a combination tempo/progression run.  The first mile was controlled, 6:02, then a little faster, 5:57, then faster again, 5:53.  The last mile I hammered, hard, but not near all out, 5:45.  In my head this was a simulation of the Spring Lake 5, just a mile short.  I pictured myself pushing the pace in the third mile (where I usually lag), then really opening up for the last mile.  Time for the tempo portion was 23:38.  This workout was a good confidence builder, the fitness is definitely there, just a few weeks to bring it to a razor's edge.  2 mile cool down made it 9 for the day @ 62:42.  This run didn't feel too hard, I can't say it was easy, but it was under control.  My legs will let me know tomorrow if it was easy or not.
