Aside from the fact that the hills were relentless, the course was not so well marked.  The top 5 guys took various wrong turns!  So while I wound up finishing 3rd, if it had been better marked, maybe I would have finished 2nd? or maybe 4th?  Hard to say.  The guy who won was gone from the gun.  I was running alone in 5th place through about halfway, which is when I got off the course.  I wound up having to bushwack through the woods to find my way back to the halfway point.  By the time I got there, the two guys I was behind rolled through so I let them go a bit, to be fair, then picked up with the second loop.  I was in fourth at that point, one guy must have dropped out.  I was feeling good on the second loop so I quickly moved into third and stayed there.  I did really well on the uphills, but the downhills were treacherous because of the surface.  Usually, you can make up some time on the downhills, but on these trails, you had to be really careful.  Big loose rocks everywhere, perfect for rolling an ankle.  I took it as easy as I had to, to be safe, no point in getting hurt.  Final time was @ 1:38.  Including 2 to warm up and 1 to cool down = 16 for the day.  Excellent workout, I'm going to be sore all over tomorrow.
