Part I.
The first run of the day was an easy 5 with an old friend from Manasquan. I ran into Brian Prendergast at the Sheehan race and found out that he lives in Brick too. So we met up for an easy run this morning at the bike path in Manasquan. Nice easy conversational pace.
Part II.
As planned, my second run of the day was the weekly 5k at Lake Takanasee. This series has been going on continuously for 48 years and this was the first time I've ever run. A very small race, classic local Shore AC style. Maybe 50 people total. 4 loops around the lake for 5k. First mile was 5:44 felt very comfortable. Second mile was 5:49, still feeling good. Traded the lead with a high school kid throughout the first 2 miles. Coming through the 3rd lap we were neck and neck. Then he started to fade. Experience sometimes wins out over age. All through the first 3 loops, he kept pushing the pace and taking the lead at the point where the course is slightly uphill and into the wind, so I just tucked in behind him each time. Then in the final loop, he was done. When I passed him I could hear in his breathing that he had nothing left. I cruised through the last mile in 5:51, then the last .1 in 31 seconds for a decent 17:57 and a WIN! My second win of the year. With the warm up and cool down 5 for the evening making it 10 for the day.
Best part of the second run: Hisako came with me and ran too! She easily ran @ 24 minutes, even though she was convinced that she only ran 3 loops

After the race, it was off to the Windmill for the dinner of champions, hotdogs, fries, and onion ring, washed down with a cold Mountain Dew. Fun Night!!
