Tough conditions out there this morning.  Temps in the mid to upper 70 with high humidity made it pretty uncomfortable.  By the time I finished my normal warm up I was dripping with sweat.  As always, the first mile in this race is a fast one.  I was shooting for 5:44 but came through in 5:41 feeling good.  The second mile didn't feel too much slower but was actually 6:05.  Next was 6:07, steady, feeling OK.  The fourth mile is always a lag for me and today was no different, 6:14, feeling very hot.  But somehow I managed to pull it together and hammer the last mile in 5:53.  I tracked down 2 or three people in the last half mile and finished 33rd overall in 30:01.  I hung around after to see if I placed in my age group.  They seemed to be announcing 3rd, 2nd, 1st.  So when they called me out first in my age group, I assumed I was 3rd.  But I just checked the results online and it turns our I actually won my age group!  With warm up and cool down, 8 for the day.  Should be interesting to see how the long run feels tomorrow, but spending today on the beach relaxing after the race certainly helped my legs recover (plus there was the round trip bike ride to Liz and Suzies for the race, probably about 8 miles.)
