Another crazy day in this heat wave, my thermometer was in triple digits by 11:00am! I started out the morning by rolling out of bed, having some coffee, then getting on the treadmill for an easy 8 @ 61. Definitely better inside than outside, but still pretty warm and humid in the basement.
For the second run of the day I took my thermometer downstairs to see what I've been running in. It said 75 degrees, so warm, but not too bad. But the humidity down there has had me sweating buckets. I began with my usual 2 mile warm up, then did 5 x 1000 @ 3:23. This is the max speed on my treadmill (5:27 pace.) The rest interval was about 2:37, making each rep last about 6 minutes. My legs felt great throughout. In cooler, dryer conditions I'm sure I can hold that pace for at least a 5K. XC season has potential to be great this year. Another 8 miles, total time for this one was just over 54 minutes. The rest of the day/evening will be focused on re-hydrating, re-fueling, and resting. Work this weekend so I'll finish off the week with two more easy runs. Maybe by Sunday the heat will break and I'll be able to run outside!
