Act 1:
An easy 10 this morning in beautiful summer conditions. Sunny, breezy, not too hot or humid. Started out fairly slow, but by the end I was cruising comfortably. 10 @ 1:16.
Act 2:
CBA Twilight Miles. This is a nice summer series that Bennett puts on. Lots of people, kids, parents, some alums. Paced miles started at 10 minute pace then went on down to 5. I ran a few big loops to warm up. It was warm but not too bad. The 5 minute mile went off last, just after sunset so it was perfect for running. But the mile is a different animal than I am used to. You really need to go hard right from the gun. I've trained myself so well to go out easy and save it for the end. But in the mile, the end comes so quickly that if you went out easy, you can't make it up. Long story short, I ran 5:16. Not bad, but slower than I expected. I definitely can run faster, I had a lot left in the tank coming through the last 300. It was a good lesson though, I need to be more aggressive in the shorter races, even the 5ks. I have built up a lot of endurance so I don't need to be afraid to take it out hard. I have the strength to hold it together for a short race while attacking from the start. With warm up and cool down, 5 more miles this evening.
