Just 8

So yesterday I was thinking that the Sea Girt 5K was today. It isn't, it's tomorrow. I was planning on doing my long run tomorrow. So I had to re-evaluate my week. In doing so, I really re-evaluated my training as a whole.
This week I was thinking I would get in a 20 miler and 80 miles for the week. Coincidentally as I was thinking about my training schedule yesterday the mail came with my newest issue of Running Times. One of the cover articles was about the importance of the long run. After reading this article and thinking about the progress (or lack thereof) I've been making over the last few years, I decided it's time to change things up a bit. After my last full marathon cycle, which was somewhat disastrous, I realized that I have reached the point of diminishing returns with the type of training I've been doing. The training I did leading up to my marathon PR is no longer paying dividends. So on the advice of this article, since I think I've maximized my aerobic capacity (at least in this cycle) I can now limit my long runs to about 90 minutes. This should workout to something between 12 and 14 miles depending on the pace. I have also realized that I need to pay more attention to making my recovery runs recovery effort. I think one of the reasons I'm not seeing improvements is because I'm not allowing my body to recover enough between tough workouts. If I can implement these changes, and as the temperature cools going into the fall, I'm very confident that some fast times will be on the way!
Anyway, I ran an easy 8 this morning @ 62 minutes.
