After running closer to what I think I should be capable of yesterday, I thought a lot about why I finally saw results.  I think it's pretty clear now that the extra recovery I had last week probably led to how strong my legs felt all the way through the race.  So with that in mind, this morning I went out and really paid attention to keeping the pace "slow."  When thinking about my recent training I realized that I had fallen into a routine where I really only had to speeds: easy pace, and workout pace.  There was no recovery pace.  Even though it often feels like you don't need a recovery day, that doesn't mean you wouldn't benefit from it.  Today my legs felt fine, racing a 5k doesn't really take that much out of you.  But I'm certain I'll feel better for it come Saturday.  So today I did 6 miles in about 50 minutes.  Now I'll be trying to pay attention to all the necessary paces: recovery pace, easy pace, steady pace, tempo pace, and all the various interval paces.  Plus on a hot morning like today, paying attention to running slower made the heat that much more tolerable.
