Another great race!  For August, you couldn't really ask for better weather than today.  When we headed out to the car this morning it was in the 60's.  But by race time, it had warmed up to the mid 70's.  But with the breeze and low humidity, it was looking good for a fast time today.  After my normal warm up I was ready to go.  By the half mile I had locked into a good pace with the lead pack of ladies.  We went through the mile in 5:36.  I felt very relaxed and smooth.  The thought that kept going through my head all during the race was, "you're legs are rested so you can't be tired."  It turned out to be true.  By two miles I had broken away from the ladies and ran through 2 @ 11:16, so about 5:40 for mile two.  Some how I screwed up the splits on the watch, but I was feeling really good here.  Just after two miles another guy came up and passed me.  I did my best to keep contact and basically tailed him all through the last mile.  We were obviously moving well because we passed some casualties who had gone out too fast.  Down the home stretch I was just a few meters back and going nearly all out.  I wish I had put out all I had because it turns out, that guy in front of me was in my age group.  So, my age group streak ended today, but finishing in 17:21 (6:05 for the last 1.1 = 5:32 pace!) was my fastest time of the summer, and only about 6 seconds off my PB.  I am very happy with how the race turned out today, 7th place overall.  Hiasko and Dad both ran well too.  It also looks like I may have moved up into 3rd place overall for the Grand Prix standings.  The guy who was in third didn't show up today, so that basically puts him out of it.  Another good race at Pier Village in a few weeks I think will have me finishing the series in the money  There is no question that all the extra rest and truly easy runs I did this week had me at 100% this morning.
