It was only a three day week thanks to Irene, and they decided to give us a four day weekend (probably for the teachers as much as for the students.)  So after taking off yesterday, this morning I got in a good fartlek run.  Normally, I push the downhill sections and relax on the uphills, but today I mixed it up a bit.  I pushed pretty hard on all the uphills as well as the downhill, and relaxed only on the flats.  I warmed up for the first two miles, then did 5 miles of fartlek, then a mile to cool down.  8 total in under 56 minutes.  Felt great, though I wish I hadn't skipped yesterday's workout, but I was feeling tired and craving red meat, which my experience tells me means that I'm close to the edge.  So I know backing off was the right thing to do, but my mileage will be a little lower this week than I had hoped.  But when you need rest, you really can't argue with your body because you will lose that argument every time!
