Nice easy 5 this morning, just to get the legs moving.  It was so cool out there I barely even broke a sweat.  Planning on another workout later, so stay tuned...

Excellent second run!  This was roughly what I had planned for Wednesday, and I'm very glad it got shuffled to today.  All the training in the heat always pays off at this time of year.  By the time I got over to the Brick reservoir the sky was completely overcast, so the temperature was probably 65 degrees with low humidity.  After one loop and some strides to warm up, I went right into it.  The plan was to run 3 loops, with each 1.6 mile split @ 9:24, which = 5:53 pace (hopefully half-marathon pace.)  The first mile I was right at 5:53, but it felt like crap.  In my head I was already thinking about changing the workout, maybe into 3 x 1 mile with a .6 recovery?  But I stuck it out and came through the first loop @ 9:15.  After that I fell into a "comfortable" rythm, the next two loops were 9:21 and 9:19.  I was really trying to pay attention to the effort, keeping it even and strong, an no kicking it in at the end.  So I actually wound up running faster than I meant to, but the effort felt right.  4.8 miles in 27:55 = 5:49 pace.  I almost kept going for the last .2 to make it an even 5 miles, which at that pace would have been @ 29:05!  This was a great confidence builder, running this workout solo as a second run, on pretty tired legs, makes me think it should be possible to run this pace for 13.1 miles.  Hopefully the weather on race morning will be something like today.  13 miles total for the day.
