First speed workout in a while.

I definitely have a way to go. After class, I jogged over to the track at Georgian Court for my first true speed workout in months. After a standard warm up of about 2 miles with some strides mixed in I didn't feel great, not a lot of bounce in my legs.
I think in the back of my head I was kind of dreading this workout. It was tough. The plan was 4 sets of 2 x 200/200 + 400/400. This totals about 3 miles of fast running, almost all of it under 5 min/mile. The pace for the 200s was supposed to be @ 37s and the 400s @75. I had no problem hitting the 200s throughout the workout I was right on at 37, one or two may have been 36. But I struggled a bit with the 400s. The first two sets I was all over the place from 73 to 78. By the end though I had found a rhythm and hit the last 4 right on 75. The 200s felt easy, no strain to get those done. Mentally half a lap is a lot easier than a whole lap. Mid-way through the first set I was thinking maybe I'll just do 3 sets instead of 4. But I had to remind myself to hang in there because it almost always feels easier towards the end. Those 400s were tough and they did feel "easier" towards the end, but far from easy, I had to work to hit 75. But that's the point of this type of workout. Ideally, the next time will feel a little bit easier.
A short cool down back to my car made it 9 for today.
