Today's race turned out even better than I had hoped.  It was pretty chilly at the start, maybe just above freezing, but I like it cold.  After a short warm up with some strides I was ready.  This race is no frills, no shirts, no medals, just racing.  The gun went off and a good size pack went out pretty fast.  In a race like this it's better to run a little faster than you plan at the start to make sure you don't wind up out running solo.  But I met up with a few guys I know right from the start, so I wasn't worried.  Still, we wound up running 5:38 for the first mile.  By mile two we settled down @ 5:53, and were down to a group of 4 or 5 guys.  Mile 3 was 5:46, then 5:50, then 5:49, so halfway @ 28:57.  The same five guys were still together here, and I played it smart, just hanging back and drafting, letting the guys up front do the work.  The markers for 6 and 7 were off, but I think we went through those 2 @ 11:50.  Mile 8 was @ 5:59.  So we slowed a little, probably because of the fast first five miles.  By the 9th mile I was still feeling good, 5:51.  Over the last 1.5 or so I passed 4 guys.  I closed the last mile in 5:48.  58:30 was good for 15th place, that's my best 10 miler ever.  My previous best was run in 2007, almost a minute slower!  With warm up and cool down, 13 for today.

Total for the week: 60
